Is That So?

My mom visited last week, and we were in the car and she was telling me a story about a boy I used to babysit.  It went sort of like this:
  • Baba (what my kids call my mom):  So, Boy-I-Used-To-Babysit was a staffer for such and such politician.
  • Me:  Wow.
  • Baba:   But he left there and became a staffer for Mike Huckabee....
  • Me:  Interesting...
  • Baba:  So, I really think he's going to... *pause looking for right word*
  • Bubba (7 year old son):  Jail?

*we all crack up to tears*

  • Baba:  Ummmm, I was going to say, "work at the white house at some point."
Oh, the wise wise 7 year old brain...

Sports Day - Take Two

Wow - what a whirlwind day!

Bubba had a Taekwondo tournament this morning (hubby and I choose not to participate this time.)  Bubba did well - I have some awesome video, but I want to edit it all together and that is going to take some time.

Then, Bubba had a baseball game.  He didn't hit the ball - but he got an amazing out while playing third base.  So, he was really excited.  THEN, Prissy had a softball game (which we sort of had to race to because the baseball game ran long.)  Prissy had an awesome game and pitched incredibly well (75% of her pitches were over the plate and she struck out 5 of the 6 people she faced) and then had an amazing assist to a first base out.  She also hit the ball and made it to base the two times she was up.

THEN, we had to watch the KU game tonight.  Hubby and I both went to KU.  That's actually where we met.  My parents are still in Kansas so it's near and dear to our hearts.  HOW AWESOME THAT THEY BEAT THE SNOT OUT NORTH CAROLINA??  RIGHT??!!!!  RIGHT!!!!  So, on to the championship game.  GO KU!!!!

Just a side note - my physical therapist is a huge Duke fan - he got his degree there and has signed Duke basketball shirts hanging all over the therapy room.  I made fun of him a little bit when Duke got ousted so quickly from the NCAA Tournament.  Note:  Don't make fun of someone that has the capability of causing pain.

Non-Stop Busy Day

Today has been a non-stop crazy busy day. Although, I did get to sleep in (can I tell you how much I needed to sleep in today?) We got up, and I packed for the day. I took Bubba to Taekwondo, and Hubby and I had taekwondo right afterward. I had to pay for testing on Tuesday. I brought "civilian" clothes for Bubba and I. During Bubba's class, I dashed over to Long's and picked up an extra birthday gift (because Prissy is going to the party too. And if I'm bringing an extra kid, I'm bringing an extra present.) I left a bit early from my class and got dressed hastily. I was sweating up a storm and we raced over to the birthday party. It was hot as could be, but the place was somewhat fun. We've been there a lot before. It's Chucky Cheese on steroids. Anyway, the kids were absolutely out of control. The place was packed beyond capacity. And for me, it was an absolute nightmare. I don't especially love crowds or lots of noise. And this place had both. I was in absolute hell. But, the kids had fun.

We got home and hubby (wonderful wonderful hubby) took the kids to the library, the dry cleaners and the hardware store to get a new filter for the house. It was the most wonderful 30 minutes I could have asked for. I read... Nothing else.

We then went to the park and Prissy practiced her pitching and Bubba and I were practicing catching. This 6 or 7 year old rides his bike up and comes over and asks to play. He didn't have a mitt, which isn't the best for throwing a baseball around. It is weird to see a young kid all by himself and I asked him where his parents were. He told me that he didn't have a dad but he was getting a new one. I asked him where his mom was and he said she was at home. He kept asking to play but it wasn't working out well because he didn't have a baseball mit. I was really worried he was going to get hurt. He finally decided to go away. Is it normal for a parent to send a 6 year old to a busy park all by himself? He was a friendly kid - but that could really get him in trouble. It just seemed weird to me.

After this, we went out to dinner at a place called Carino's because we had a gift certificate. Unfortunately, we forgot the gift card. DOH! It was absolutely wonderful food though and the service was fantastic. So, I guess we'll just have to go back.

Tomorrow, Bubba has a soccer game and I have a huge list of errands to get done. But, because I slept in this morning - it just makes all the differerence...

On a super bummer note - my knee hurts a lot. Stupid knee... I better be able to get my black belt. I'm just saying...

High Blood Pressure Day

Today started with me getting to work - knowing my day was completely booked back to back to back to back with meetings.  Monday's truly suck.  Anyway, I got to work and the orthodontist called and I totally forgot about Prissy's appointment (which was at 8:15pm).  I rescheduled it for tomorrow, but it's at 9:30am.  I should never schedule anything at 8am on a Monday morning.
Then, meetings, meetings, meetings... Then, lunch, which was a nice break.  However, Hubby reminded me that Prissy has a field trip tomorrow - at the same time I scheduled her ortho appointment.  As soon as I got back to work I was going to call the ortho, but my phone was ringing... It was the school and Bubba had ripped his pants.  A lot... And they needed me to go home and get him another pair of pants.  We live an hour away - so I told them, while giggling hysterically, that I couldn't go home, but that I'd run to Target to pick him up a new pair.  *sigh*  So, I canceled my right after lunch meeting and ran to the store and picked him up two pairs of pants (he's an incredibly skinny kid and it's hard to size him.  I bought him a 4/5 and a 6 slim with the super neat adjustable waist.)  The horrible part is that I found it incredibly funny.  I couldn't stop laughing the entire time I was shopping.
Anyway, I got to the school and he was sitting in the office.  The hole - totally ripped in the crotch from front to back.  His Pirates of the Carribean underwear were there for all the world to see.  It took every ounce of control I had to not crack up in front of him.  He was so embarrassed... But, to see his underwear just "out there" was almost too much to bear.  Anyway, the 4/5 was too big around the waist, so I made the 6 slim as absolutely as small as possible and they fit.  A bit long, but one roll he was fine.  He really liked the new pants.  Anyway, he went back to class and I got in my car and laughed until I had tears...
Went back and went to all my meetings and they were much better.  A good belly laugh fixes almost anything.  I realized at 5pm that I failed to call the ortho to reschedule the appointment for tomorrow.  We called and asked them to give us a call.  I picked up Prissy, we went to dinner and then went to her baton lesson.  Then home - where hubby was sort of on a tirade about taxes.  He thinks we're gonna get hit with the AMT tax because I sold all my stock options in December.  However, I had to sell my options because I'm leaving my company (we were spun off - not a choice of mine) and I will lose them if I don't sell them.  The cool part is that I sold them at a relatively good price (the stock tanked shortly after that.)  But, they will probably all go away in taxes for next year.  GAH!

Can't believe she's going to be NINE!!!

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday.  She is going to be NINE!!!  I will have a NINE year old.  That just seems so old.  These past nine years have gone by so incredibly fast.  She started off as a demon toddler and turned into such a sweet and wonderful little girl and is turning into such a brilliant, talented and caring big girl.

Tomorrow we are going out to Chevy's for dinner.  I've already made Rice Krispy treats for her to take to school.  I've also already made her requested cake for the family - it's a chocolate cake with blue wintergreen frosting.  Weird cake - but tastes wonderful.

That's all for today!

My stress is down two notches

Ok - I've been SO LOOKING FORWARD to sleeping in today.  I was planning on sleeping as late as absolutely possible.  The kids were prepped, hubby was prepped.  I was SLEEPING IN!!! Ahhh... The kitten decides to snuggle around 6ish - and she's purring and making biscuits like crazy, but it's soothing and I can pretty much sleep through it.  8am the phone rings.  OH MY GOD!!!  I jump out of bed - thinking it was my alarm.  Trying to figure out what he heck is going on - I finally realize that it's the phone, and I have a phone on my bedside table.  I answer it and it's a survey.  It fully woke me up and I was SO PISSED OFF.  It was survey about an oil change I had a few weeks ago.  I yelled at the guy - DO YOU KNOW THAT IT'S 8am ON A SATURDAY MORNING??!!!  AND I WAS STILL ASLEEP??!!!!  AND YOU WOKE ME UP??!!!???  He then quickly said, "uhhh, we'll call you back at a different time" and quickly hung up.

While the place I get my oil changed is awesome - I don't think I'll ever go there again because if I do, they might CALL ME AND WAKE ME UP ON THE ONE DAY THAT I GET TO SLEEP IN!!!!!!  Needless to say - I was totally awake then.  Completely and totally, no going back to sleep for 30 mins, or even an hour.  I'm still ticked off - some jerk from a survey company took away my ONE sleep in day.

Anyway, I made my list of things to do for Christmas, etc.  And I immediately got stressed out.  I have SO MUCH STUFF TO DO!!!  However, I went to Taekwondo, we have testing on Wednesday so we are working hard to get enough classes in.  Then we had lunch, went to the library and put up the Christmas decorations (which look awesome) and then I went to Target and got a bunch of stuff - including the book exchange books and the work exchange gift and a couple of other things that I need (like toilet paper.)  So, I'm feeling better about that.  I finished up another Christmas gift and it's ready to send and I bought my Christmas cards.  My best friend is super organized and has had her Christmas shopping done for months (so has my mom actually - she has already purchased AND shipped all of the gifts.)  Whoo!  So, I'm feeling a little bit better.  I also got my long walk in for the week - so I'm completely exercised and down several pounds.  If this weekend is anything like last weekend, my weight will go up, but it is certainly on a downward trend.  At my lowest this week, I was 8.4 pounds down.  That's nothing to sneeze at.

Tomorrow, I have to get up super duper early - the baton competition season begins.  Prissy has her team event, her marching event, her compulsaries (which is new for her), her presentation, her solo, and her dance twirl (which is new for her) individual events.  It's a small contest - so, hopefully she does well.  But, it begins now.  I've been stressing out over the little girls team costumes, and Prissy's individual costumes.  The is the first year I've had to worry about it.  It's still a little bit stressful - but should be ok.

The only bummer part of this weekend this far is that Bubba has a cold.  He was all stuffed up when I picked him up from school on Friday and he was still pretty clogged up today.  No fever, just doesn't feel great.  He still went to Taekwondo, but is just generally a little slower.

That's all - I'll give a report tomorrow on the competition!  Wish Prissy luck!

My daughter is a 60 year old trapped in an 8 year old's body

Really -

On Sunday, on the way to the baton competition, we stopped at Starbucks.  It was probably 6:45 - 7:00am.  I was NOT going to start a very long day without my Starbucks.  Anyway, there was not a single car around anywhere, and I pulled out of the parking lot where it was specifically an entrance (which doesn't make sense and people pull out of there all the time.)  Anyway, my daughter then explains to me that even though it's not a LAW, it is a rule that we should obey because we are all responsibile to keep each other safe in our community.  These are her words, I kid you not.

Then, a little later in the drive, she starts telling me about an author that she particularly enjoys (I cannot remember her name), but she writes non-fiction.  The story my daughter read was about a quilter who passed her quilts down from generation to generation.  My daughter was especially interested in this as I have quilts that my grandmother made and will pass down to her.

Then, last night at dinner, we were talking about something and she said, "Oh, that's grand!"  and I started laughing, and my husband said, "Did she say great or grand?" and she answers "Grand.  Of course."

She is always coming up with these little weird words and sayings that normal people don't use in every day conversation.  She is an absolute avid reader, she picks very diverse books from the library - Chinese Fairytales, books of poetry, fiction from the 1800s, new fiction, historical fiction and is just now getting into non-fiction memoirs.  It helps her vocabulary quite a bit - but, it just cracks me up to hear some of the things coming out of her mouth.

Until tomorrw...
